Frost's Store stood on the northeast side
of the Falls Bridge. Goods for the store were delivered
via gundalow, which could tie up under the store and the
goods hoisted up through a trap door. The post office wing
was added near the road, as the Frost's were postmasters
from 1808-1848. The Jenkins Mill shows at the right, and
the old wooden dam through the bridge.

This is Main Street looking toward the College.
Edgerly's Store in the foreground was built about 1920 and
the gas tank in front was the first one in town. The Hardy
Block of brick is quite new, but the High Hat Club has since
been torn down for modern construction. Grant's Cafe is
the last building evident on the right. At the left forground
is the concrete entrance to the A&P which was the original
station, and the Smart homestead is behind the picket fence.
At the extreme rear can be seen the newly constructed Hamilton
Smith Library.

One of the last gundalows, this was docked
at the Landing opposite the Sullivan homestead. Loaded with
cord wood, probably for Portsmouth homes or for fuel for
the brick-yards it appears to be about as wide as it is
long, but the lateen sail is not evident in this photo.
